A Canadian importer finds the perfect freight forwarding fit

20 December 2007

A local Canadian importer finally finds a freight forwarder she can count on.

A good attitude is fundamental to creating lasting business relationships, and finding a good fit is just as important. Amy Valagao, Operations Manager at Continental Importers Ltd., has found both with Geodis Wilson.

A local company with tradition

Continental Importers Ltd. was started by Valagao’s Portuguese grandparents in 1959 as a deli and warehouse space on Vancouver’s Main St, serving mainly the Portuguese community. Since then, the company has grown into an import business that supplies five-star hotels, high-end restaurants, grocery store chains, upscale food boutiques, retail stores and distributors throughout Canada.

Valagao had dealt with other freight forwarders, and although she was looking for a one-stop shop, she was wary of committing to yet another. “My experience with other companies was that they were hungry at the beginning, and then things fell apart,” she says. “But Geodis Wilson’s can-do attitude was evident from the start, and has continued to impress me.”

A freight forwarder with history

As the operator of a business with tradition behind it, Valagao was also attracted by the fact that Geodis Wilson’s history goes back 160 years. But it’s not just our background that makes this partnership work. Valagao deals with multiple suppliers in different countries, and she is very clear that her freight forwarding needs are all about meeting today’s challenges. “Geodis Wilson has the right kind of industry expertise, and their network succeeds for us on a daily basis.”

This is the result of hard work and that all-important customer-focused attitude. The Geodis Wilson team didn’t just streamline and tailor a solution for Continental Importers Ltd. that fits their business. They also made sure that Valagao knew she had a company supporting her around the clock.

A real sense of partnership

Valagao affirms that this has created a real sense partnership between her company and a freight forwarder that is truly attentive to her requirements. “The Geodis Wilson people here and overseas are highly trained and provide an excellent level of professional service. Here in Vancouver, the Geodis team calls me all the time. And I can always reach them when I need to.”

A local company with a tradition and a personal flair, dealing with multiple suppliers around the world. A freight forwarder with history, a global network and local, personal accountability.

It’s a business relationship built to last.
