The Sudan project

Our dedication in practice

When the French firm Alstom was contracted to provide mechanical and electrical equipment for an enlargement of Sudan’s 7-km dam north of Khartoum, they turned to Geodis Wilson to manage transport for the operation.

The challenge: to move 80,000 m3 of equipment 1,700 km inland to the construction site in a country with no suitable infrastructure or local support. Our competitors decided to offer outsourcing. We did not. We brought in our own people to handle day-to-day operations and we shipped in heavy-duty tractors, resurfacing roads as needed to bring the equipment safely to the project site.

Our approach did not just differentiate us from our competitors in terms of operational advantages. Our solution was also more attractive from a commercial point of view. Alstom has now chosen Geodis Wilson to handle the project forwarding of 120,000 m3 of equipment to the Himalayas…
